Congratulations: you have made it to the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Having worked so hard to get this far, you have earned a residential activity programme that is special.

What’s different?

The clue is in the word ‘international’. If you choose MTE International Summer Camp, you will be doing your programme along side other young people from 20+ countries: right here in the UK. Participants come from every corner of Europe including France, Spain, Italy, Germany plus places as far away as Brazil and Mexico.

Where is it?

MTE International Summer Camp takes place in the spectacular 50 acre grounds of Moor Park, which is a boarding school in Ludlow, Shropshire.

 

How your day works:

Do  one MAJOR in the morning  then learn different skills by following a MINOR  in the afternoon. Relax late afternoon, evening and at the weekend with MULTI-ACTIVITY & SOCIAL PROGRAMME: sports, activies, events and excursions.

Who will I be doing the programme with?

  • Majors are with other British DofE Gold candidates 16-17 years old.
  • Minors + the Multi-Activity programme are with teens from 20+ countries from around the world
What is the age of the international students?

  • 60% of the international students are 15-17 years old.
  • 40% of our international students are 12-14 years old.

Majors: 

Mornings – 12 hours 

Major: Golf

The secret to golf is concentration and coordination. You will learn with PGA qualified golf coach Dan Francis and you will be doing your lessons at the 18-hole Ludlow Golf Club, which offers a driving range and a wide variety of holes including some with bunkers. Moor Park also has a 9-hole Par 3 golf course on campus. You will work on a range of shots from ‘set and swing’ to chipping and putting in order to build a complete game. The coaches use video playback to help even the most advanced players make big improvements in their technique.

Some experience recommended so that you can get the most out of this intensive course.

Major: Tennis

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, work with specialist coaches to improve your game. Every day you will focus on two aspects of your game such as dominating from the middle or cross court battles. During the final lesson every day you will develop your competitive spirit and resilience by playing matches.

Minors: 

Afternoons: 10 hours

Drills, skills and matches: get ready to work hard with top level professional coaches learning with the most modern training methods. Sharing your passion for football: there is no better way to make lifelong friendships from around the world.

Minor: International Basketball

Minor: International Basketball

Trained by expert coaches, you will work to elevate your basketball game prioritising ball control, but focusing also on shooting, dribbling, defending, rebounding, and passing.

Minor: International Film Making

Working with an expert film teacher and other young people from around the world, DofE Gold candidates storyboard, shoot and edit your very own film. The end result is then shown to an audience. This option is superb for developing your creative, technical and learning to communicate across cultures in mixed nationality teams.

Specialism: International Theatre

Minor: International Theatre

Working in an international team, you will experience the full process of making a stage production from initial development of ideas to the final performance. Supported by professional drama tutors, you will learn to conquer your fears and step on stage with confidence.

Minor: International Dance

Minor: International Dance

Working with professional dance teachers, you will learn different dance styles from around the world and work together in mixed nationality teams to create a choreographed dance show to present to the camp.

Social

In addition to focused Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award residential activities, you will also benefit from a full programme of sports, activities, events and excursions.

Excursions on the 2025 programme include: Liverpool (July 17) and Oxford (July 31), Chester (August 7).

4. Prior to your arrival at MTE, we’ll send you a pre-departure pack  containing:

  • Parental and Medical Consent Form
  • Student & Parent handbook which includes a packing list and guidance on how to gain maximum benefit from living as part of an international community.

  • You must be under 18 years old. Most DofE students are 16-17.
What is the age of the international students?

What are check-in / check-out times?
  • Arrival day is Sunday. Please arrive on campus at 1900.
  • Departure day is Friday. Please organise your departure from campus at 1730.

How do I travel to the campus?
  • By car
  • By train
I will be travelling by train. How do I get to the campus?

Ludlow train station is 5-9 minutes’ drive (35-40 minutes’ walk) from the campus. Please do not walk from the train station with your suitcase.  If you are travelling by train:

  • Arrival: a school vehicle / a taxi will collect you at 1845 (Sunday) from Ludlow train station. Cost £10.
  • Departure: a school vehicle / a taxi will take you to Ludlow train station at 1730 (Friday).  Cost £10.

Can I go off-campus alone?
  • The safety and welfare of participants is our first priority.  For this reason, summer school is a structured environment and students are only allowed off campus with staff. You will have some free time on your full-day excursion.
